Outdoor wood boiler (OWB) insulated RAUPEX pipe is specially designed for the efficient transfer of hot water from outdoor wood boilers to residential and light commercial buildings. A flexible alternative to rigid pipe, OWB pipe offers ease of installation combines with the long-term performance of REHAU’s RAUPEX O2 Barrier PEXa pipe for hydronic heating applications.
OWB pipe consists of two carrier pipes surrounded by a solid layer of polyurethane foam insulation and protected by a polyethylene casing. The two pipe configuration combines supply and return pipes, streamlining installation. One of the RAUTHERM pipes is marked with a black line to differentiate supply from return. OWB pipes are available with 32mm carrier pipes and coiled for shipment.
A maximum pressure and temperature limit for the Insulpex pipe in accordance with DIN 16892/93 is 660kPa at 95 degree C, which corresponds to an industry accepted minimum material safety factor of 1.25 on allowable working pressure. This material safety factor considers the variations from extrusion, post-processing and static water pressure. According to ISO, it is up to the designer to incorporate the additional safety factors to correct for the anticipated installation, operating conditions and compliance to applicable codes. Refer to PPI TN-28 and TR-9 for further explanation of these continuous use pressure limits and the differences between the ASTM and ISO methods. They following pressure and temperature limits apply to the application of Insulpex pipe for conveying heating and cooling water and continuous temperature with a 2.0 safety factor on allowable working pressure.
